Let me tell you a little story... Almost thirty years ago, an old friend of mine gave me one of the greatest gifts I've ever received: A small book of traditional Celtic knotwork sketches. Strange animals were intertwined with the most incredible woven knots. A heron peeked out around the trunk of a tree, its feathers twisted into the bark. A dog stood near a berry bush with its tail weaving in and out of the bramble tendrils. The next page was filled with tricorner knots and loops that danced dizzily around each other. Blues and greens vibrated from the pages, and each line of each knot was traced in the finest silver or gold.
He watched me reading for a few minutes, smiling quietly, then reached over and turned a page, revealing intricately designed crosses and hearts, spirals and labyrinths that would make a minotaur proud. I was hooked, right then and there. That book became the first piece of a collection which began that very day. When I asked him where he got it, he just shook his head and grinned. No matter where I've looked and who I've asked, I've never found anything like it since. That book acted as my inspiration, driving me to find even more Celtic art, sketches, patterns and designs.
