The Mystic
As an agnostic during my college days, I struggled with my beliefs, wanting once again to know the nurture of religious faith, but feeling unable to embrace the doctrine of my upbringing. The "leap of faith" that was said to characterize the beginning of faith was something I understood as
suspended disbelief in such illogical positions as the physical resurrection of the body or the virgin birth, and I couldn't embrace those notions any longer. But one day, I saw "leap of faith" as having to do with something quite different than my beliefs about God -- rather it could be a holy experiment, in which I lived this hour or this day as if God exists, to see what happened. Gradually, I found my way to new faith, embedded in mystical experience. The selections here express the third path of The Mystic.
